Neasden grew up around the railway. The Metropolitan line reached it in 1880 and the depot followed two years later, now the largest on the London Underground. Then came the building boom of the 1920s and 1930s, which filled in most of what you see today: interwar semis and terraces with front gardens, bay windows and lofts. Older still is the Neasden Village conservation area, a pocket of two-storey terraced houses first built for railway workers.
