Keep paying for the old place

Customer story · Between homes
Alban, 28, runs her own small business. The dates on her two rentals didn’t line up, leaving six months between moving out of her cottage in Chiswick and moving into her new home in Hampstead Heath. We stored her furniture and belongings while she stayed with her friend Jordan, then delivered everything to her new home in one go.
Alban’s two-bedroom cottage in Chiswick
In short
Alban, 28, runs her own small business. In February 2021 she moved out of her two-bedroom cottage with a garden in Chiswick. Her next rental, in Hampstead Heath, wasn’t free for another six months. She booked with us by phone, collected boxes from our depot and packed everything herself. We collected all 96 items in one go, stored them in a 70 sq ft unit for six months while she stayed with her friend Jordan, then delivered it all to Hampstead Heath in one go.
The situation
Alban is 28 and runs her own small business. She was renting a 750 sq ft two-bedroom cottage with a garden in Chiswick. She’d found her next home in Hampstead Heath, but the dates on the two rentals didn’t line up. When she moved out in February 2021, the new place wasn’t free for another six months.
Her friend Jordan had room for her, but not for the contents of a cottage. She needed somewhere safe for her furniture and most of her belongings for six months, and a way to get it all to Hampstead Heath when the time came.

How it worked
She called our team, gave us her dates and booked collection and storage.
Her family lives near one of our depots, so she picked up her boxes in person and packed everything herself.
In February 2021 we collected all her furniture and most of her belongings, 96 items in all, from the cottage in a single trip.
She kept just her essentials with her while she stayed with her friend Jordan.
When her new home was ready in August 2021, we delivered everything to Hampstead Heath in a single trip.

Packing her own way
Alban’s family lives near one of our depots, so rather than have boxes delivered, she called in and collected them in person. She then packed the whole cottage herself, at her own pace, before collection day.
On the day, our crew wrapped and loaded her furniture and boxes in one trip. Anything she needed for the next six months stayed in her bags for Jordan’s.
★★★★★
“A* Service from JamStorage. I had not come across the storage service where the storage company actually come and collect before, this made my life so much easier. The price was really competitive and the service was swift. I only had a small collection which took just under and hour and it was roughly the same for the delivery back. I went into storage for 6 months, initially booking with Matt who was very helpful. Sorry but I do not remember the name of the guys who collected by Ben and Josh were equally as great when I received all of my items back from storage today, in the exact condition I left them in.”

Our advice
A few things that make collection day, and your time in storage, much easier.
Have everything packed and ready before collection day. Leave out one or two boxes for the things you need that night, then pack those first thing in the morning.
You can’t always be sure what time you’ll get the keys. Avoid moving your things into storage on the day a tenancy ends or starts, and give yourself a day either side.
Proper packing materials make life much easier. Sturdy boxes stack neatly, so we can fill your unit right to the top and make the most of its full height. Bags tend to collapse under weight.
