Storing a Clerkenwell flat’s furniture for a 2-year tenancy, and delivering a sold armchair to Bath

James’s new tenants signed a two-year lease on his Clerkenwell flat and only wanted to keep some of his furniture. We collected the rest and stored it. When he sold one of his orange armchairs, he picked it in his online photo inventory and we delivered it to the buyer in Bath.

The situation

Tenants who wanted the flat unfurnished

James owns a flat in Clerkenwell, London. He found tenants who wanted to move in and signed a two-year rental agreement. They were happy to keep some of his furniture, but not all of it.

That left him with the rest of the furniture to clear before the tenants moved in, and nowhere to keep it for two years. He wanted a company that would take everything away, look after it for the whole tenancy, and let him get at it if he needed to.

The options

Why he chose storage with collection

Clearing a flat for a tenant usually means one of three things.

Sell or give it all away

Quick, but he’d lose furniture he wanted to keep, and rushing a sale before the move-in date rarely gets a good price.

Rent a self storage unit

Hire a van, carry everything out of the flat, drive it to a unit, and go back to the unit every time he needed something over the two years.

JamStorage

We collect from the flat, store everything for the tenancy, and photograph every item so he can see it all online and send any of it anywhere.

Selling from storage

James sold an armchair without going near the depot

Because every item was photographed at collection, James could see exactly what he had in storage from his phone. He used the photo of one of his orange armchairs to sell it, then chose it in the app and entered the buyer’s address.

Bath is outside our standard delivery area, so we gave him a bespoke quote. Once he’d agreed it, we took the armchair straight from storage to the buyer. He didn’t need to hire a van, meet the buyer or unpack anything else.
